Egypt has received the largest British trade delegation to Egypt in nearly two decades for a five-day visit, concentrating on oil, gas, transportation, education, infrastructure, and health, according to a statement by the British Embassy in Cairo.

UK trade envoy to Egypt Sir Jeffrey Donaldson is heading the delegation of more than 50 companies; 33 entities are from the Scottish Development International; 14 firms from the transport and healthcare sectors; six oil and gas companies from the Energy Industries Council; and four organizations focusing on the education sector. Existing and potential investors in Egypt such as Fujitsu, Bombardier, Mott MacDonald, and GlaxoSmithKline are also part of the delegation.

Donaldson is scheduled to meet several ministers including Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil, Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr; Minister of Health Ahmed Rady; Minister of Education Tarek Shawky, Minister of Higher Education Khalid Abdel-Ghaffar, and Minister of Transport Hisham Arafat.

Another delegation, also headed by Donaldson but focusing on infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and defense, arrived in Egypt last September. Also, a delegation from CDC Group, UK’s development finance institution, and its subsidiary Globeleq visited Egypt this month to explore investment opportunities.

Donaldson explained that Egypt and the UK are keen on keeping their trade relationship stronger than before, especially after Britain’s exit from the European Union.

“Egypt and the UK are working to ensure that their trade relationship remains as strong as ever, by ensuring continuity of effect post-Brexit, which means in real terms that the investment links between the two countries can continue to go from strength to strength,” the press release added.

UK Ambassador to Egypt John Casson said that the UK is one of the largest investors in Egypt, with 1,350 current British companies and investments worth USD 30.5 bn in different sectors since 2011.
