Amany Abu Zeid, a senior official with the African Development Bank, seeks to be the new African Union (AU) Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, while Mona El Garf seeks to be the Head of Egypt’s Consumer Protection Agency within the AU commissioner for Trade and Industry, Invest-Gate reports.
Winner of any of the available posts is expected to get at least two-thirds of AU member votes, which depicts 36 out of 54 members, according to a statement released by the State Information Service Center.
Around eight candidates are competing for the two posts. The election process will take place during the African Summit in the attendance of state and government representatives. El Garf, currently, heads the Egyptian Competition Authority.
