Egypt’s Deputy Housing Minister Reviews Progress of Badr City Wastewater Project

Sayed Ismail, Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Housing for Infrastructure, held a video conference to review the latest developments in the integrated sanitation project in Badr City, Beheira Governorate, Invest-Gate reports.

The conference aimed at ensuring citizens’ fast access to the service, as part of the state’s focus on improving living standards, especially drinking water and sanitation services.

The project includes a 10,000 m3/day triple treatment plant discharging into a starting canal, around 60 km of internal drainage networks, and 5 km of extraction lines to the treatment plant.

Ismail stressed decisions to add tertiary treatment to plants discharging into canals to implement the state’s plan to reuse treated water and preserve resources.

The implementation in Badr stems from a constant emphasis on parallel sewage networks so citizens benefit as the project expands.

The Deputy Head of the National Authority of Potable Water and Sewage (NOPWASD) said the EGP 370 mn project serves Badr City along with Omar Makram village.

It is undergoing trial operations with all facilities and 50% of main and sub-networks are completed so buildings can immediately connect and benefit, he added.

Furthermore, the deputy housing minister directed for rapid completion of the project so citizens fully benefit within four months.

He emphasized coordination for a partial handover between the Beheira Drinking Water and Sanitation Company and the NOPWASD’s local executive body to immediately implement household connections and citizen participation.
