Egypt’s Housing Minister Meets Armed Forces Engineering Authority to Discuss Water and Wastewater Projects

Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting with Maj. Gen. Tarek El-Weshahy, Head of the Water Department at the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, along with his accompanying delegation, to review joint projects related to water and wastewater plants, Invest-Gate reports.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Housing, the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, the Executive Organization for Potable Water and Sanitation, and the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage.

During the meeting, El-Sherbiny highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring continuous coordination and strengthening cooperation to meet national potable water needs, given the strategic importance of this sector. Discussions also covered the progress of several joint wastewater treatment projects.

Key topics included cooperation on the third phase of the Gabal El Asfar wastewater treatment plant expansion to boost its capacity, as well as reviewing the Housing Ministry’s strategic plan for water desalination projects. The meeting explored proposals on operating desalination plants in partnership with private sector companies specializing in construction, management, and operation of such facilities, while emphasizing the need to upgrade existing plants to maximize efficiency.

The two sides further stressed the importance of setting clear timelines for targeted projects to address both current and future water needs.
