Sherif El Sherbini, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, has convened a meeting to oversee the progress of the Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydroelectric Station project, Invest-Gate reports.
The project is being executed by the Egyptian alliance of the Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric companies on the Rufiji River in Tanzania.
Attendees at the meeting included officials from the Ministry of Housing, the Central Agency for Reconstruction, and the Egyptian Alliance responsible for implementing the project.
El Sherbini provided an update on the project’s implementation, highlighting the ongoing construction of a 1,025-meter-long dam. The dam’s reservoir has a storage capacity of 34 billion cubic meters.
Additionally, the project includes the establishment of a hydroelectric power station in the Morgoro Nature Reserve, situated southwest of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s commercial capital. The power station is expected to generate 2,115 megawatts of electricity.
El Sherbini emphasized that the Egyptian government attaches great importance to the successful completion of this significant project. It exemplifies the strong relations between Egypt and Tanzania, while showcasing the capabilities and expertise of Egyptian companies in executing major projects, particularly for African nations.
Furthermore, the project is regularly monitored by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, underscoring Egypt’s commitment to supporting Tanzania’s development, providing essential electrical energy to the country, managing flood control of the Rufiji River, and preserving the environment.
