Egypt’s New Cabinet Swears in; PM Madbouly to Continue Heading Housing Ministry

Egypt’s new government has sworn in on Thursday, June 14, with the appointment of 12 new ministers and 15 deputies, Invest-Gate reports.

New Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly will continue to head the housing ministry with the aid of two deputies; Khaled Abbas, new deputy minister of housing for national projects, and Randa Ali Saled, deputy minister of housing for follow-up and utilities.

Assem Al Gazar was also appointed as Deputy Ministry of Housing,Utilities and Urban Development, and Chairman of General Organization for Physical Planning (GOPP).

Major changes in the cabinet include the appointment of Mohamed Zaki as defense minister and naming Mahmoud Tawfik as interior minister.

The new formation includes Mohamed Maait as Finance Minister, Younes Al-Masry as Civil Aviation Minister, Amr Talaat as Communications and Information Technology Minister, and Hala Zayed as Health Minister.

Ashraf Sobhy is also appointed as Minister of Youth and Sports, Amr Nassar as Minister of Trade and Industry, and Mahmoud Shaarawy as Minister of Local Development, and Ezz El-Din Abu Steet as Agriculture Minister.

On June 7,  President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi appointed Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, as the new prime minister and delegated him to form the new government.

This came two days after Egypt’s cabinet, including Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, resigned to pave the way for the appointment of a new cabinet following El-Sisi’s re-election as the head of state for a second term until 2022.
