Egypt’s New Delta Agriculture Wastewater Treatment, Recycling and Reuse Plant, the world’s largest of its type, breaks more records, Invest-Gate reports.
The plant is a joint venture between Metito, Orascom Construction, The Arab Contractors, and Hassan Allam Construction, operating under the mandate of the Ministry of Defense, Armed Forces Engineering Authority Water Department.
This remarkable plant has been awarded four significant Guinness World Records (GWR) titles. Firstly, it holds the record for the largest water treatment facility, covering an impressive area of 320,600 sqm. Secondly, it is recognized as the largest water treatment plant with a capacity of 86.8 cubic meters per second.
Additionally, the plant earned the title for the largest epoxy coating in a building, spanning an expansive area of 520,339 sqm. Lastly, it boasts the largest sludge treatment plant, with a substantial capacity of 670.01 kilograms.
With a remarkable capacity of 7.5 mn cubic meters per day, the plant stands as a testament to Egypt’s unwavering commitment to achieving water security by optimizing fresh water usage and constructing climate-smart water infrastructure.
The New Delta Treatment plant plays a vital role in providing irrigation for approximately 1.2 mn acres of agricultural land in the western region of the Nile Delta. It also aims to address pollution in Marriout Lake and the Mediterranean Sea coast in Alexandria while promoting the development of the area’s arable land and various sectors.
Moreover, the plant contributes significantly to mitigating the effects of climate change in the existing Delta area, including drainage and pumping stations. By redirecting wastewater and floodwaters that contribute to land subsidence in Behira Governorate to the New Delta area, the plant helps alleviate these issues.
