El Gazzar Calls for Regular Follow-Up on ‘Residence for all Egyptians’ Project

Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar has emphasized the need for adherence to deadlines and continuous follow-up on the construction of housing units in the “Residence for all Egyptians” initiative, Invest-Gate reports.

This came during El Gazzar’s meeting with multiple officials from the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) and the Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Fund (SHMFF) to discuss the presidential initiative, as highlighted in a ministerial statement on December 31.

The “Residence for all Egyptians” initiative aims at offering decent housing for all low- and middle-income earners nationwide, on top of slum residents.

For starters, the national project will cover East Port Said and New Aswan, as well as west Cairo’s New October and October Gardens, while catering to other areas across the country in the short run, the minister explained.

During the meeting, he stressed zero tolerance to contracting companies reluctant to implement or provide unsatisfying finish quality, mandating the withdrawal of work from contractors presenting unpleasant duties.

Last December, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi had directed the implementation of additional 3,300 housing units nationwide, as part of the “Residence for All Egyptians” initiative, and as an extension to the state’s “Ahalena” social housing project in the vicinity of Ibrahim El Orabi Axis, according to a previous statement.
