El-Gazzar Meets UN-Habitat’s Officials for WUF12 Hosting

Minister of Housing Assem El-Gazzar holds a meeting with officials from the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) to discuss preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) in 2024, Invest-Gate reports.

The meeting focuses on proposals for the forum’s activities and events, including visits to housing and development projects in Egypt.

The Egyptian Minister emphasizes the country’s rich experience in various fields of urban development, from establishing new cities to developing unsafe and historical areas, as well as road projects.

El-Gazzar underscores the significance of the WUF12 as the second-largest event on the United Nations agenda after the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, which Egypt hosted in 2018.

He adds that the forum presents an opportunity for Egypt to showcase its pioneering urban experience and will make it the first African country to host the event since its inaugural session in Nairobi, Kenya.

The minister highlights that one of the reasons that qualified Egypt to host the WUF12 is the New Urban Communities Authority’s appreciation award in sustainable urban development, which it won in 2021 from the UN-Habitat among 170 nominations from many countries.
