El-Gazzar Reviews Housing Ministry’s Projects in Sinai, Suez Canal Cities Over the Past 10 Years

On the 42nd anniversary of the liberation of Sinai, Assem El-Gazzar, the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, reviewed the various development projects implemented by the Ministry of Housing, through the Central Agency for Reconstruction, in Sinai and the Canal cities over the past 10 years since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi took office in 2014, Invest-Gate reports.

El-Gazzar emphasized that the Egyptian state, represented by the Ministry of Housing and its agencies, is exerting every effort to implement diverse development projects for the people in Sinai and the Canal cities.

El-Gazzar highlighted that the Ministry’s Central Agency for Reconstruction, in collaboration with the Sinai Reconstruction Authority, has undertaken 522 projects in various development fields in Sinai and the Canal Cities since 2014.

These projects, with a total cost of approximately EGP 46.7 bn, aim to contribute to the development of Sinai by enhancing road quality, improving services for citizens, developing remote villages and Bedouin communities, reconstructing the Sinai Desert, and optimizing the utilization of available resources in these areas. The ultimate goal is to enhance the standard of living, meet the people’s food and service needs, facilitate movement, and connect Sinai to the mainland.

El-Gazzar explained that one of the most significant ongoing projects is the development of the Great Transfiguration site in the Land of Peace, located in St. Catherine city. The development efforts aim to transform the site into a unique and unparalleled tourist destination worldwide. The initial phase of development includes the implementation of 14 projects.

Mahmoud Nassar, the head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, mentioned that a total of 150 road projects have been completed or are currently underway, covering a combined length of 1,154 km (1,012 km completed and 142 km ongoing).

These projects have been carried out at a cost of EGP 9.427 bn. Additionally, 32 integrated development projects have been undertaken, with a total investment of EGP 900 mn, to benefit the people of Sinai.
