Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar has reviewed the proposed development plan for South Sinai’s Saint Catherine city, in an attempt to revive the historical site, Invest-Gate reports.
In a meeting with several ministerial officials, El Gazzar mandated the designing of masterplans, setting development priorities, and approving proposed investment projects, according to a recent official statement.
The development plan shall open up new investment horizons, thus enhancing the existing telecommunication networks is vital to promote the destination’s tourism, security, and healthcare facilities, El Gazzar further stated, pointing to planting medical herbs to cater to specific investors.
The minister also reiterated the preservation of the city’s architectural heritage throughout the advancement process, in a bid to keep the historical, spiritual, and cultural value of Saint Catherine alive.
On his part, Mostafa Mounir, the minister’s technical consultant, indicated that the outline involves the execution of three tourist strips, in addition to implementing multiple investment projects that exhibit Saint Catherine’s strategic location and natural blessings.
Saint Catherine has been long deemed as a go-to destination for local and international visitors. Specifically, it encompasses the Orthodox Monastery, which is among the sites shining on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
