El Gouna Partners with WFP to Champion Humanitarian Causes with “Cycling for Humanity” Event during the Town’s 35 Year Anniversary

El Gouna, the fully integrated sustainable town by Orascom Development on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, has partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to promote humanitarian causes and support food and nutrition security across Egypt, Invest-Gate reports.

The partnership was formalized in a signing ceremony attended by senior representatives from El Gouna, Orascom Development, and WFP Egypt, highlighting a shared commitment to social impact and sustainable community development.

To mark the collaboration, El Gouna launched “Cycling for Humanity”, an event blending sport, art, and social purpose. The 3.5 km community ride—set for October 22—celebrates El Gouna’s 35th anniversary, starting from the El Gouna Conference and Culture Center (GCCC) and ending at Abu Tig Marina.

In a symbolic gesture, El Gouna pledged EGP 350,000 to WFP for every kilometer cycled, supporting programs that strengthen food and nutrition security nationwide.

Mohamed Amer, CEO of El Gouna and Executive Board Member at Orascom Development Egypt, said “This collaboration with the World Food Programme reflects our shared vision of linking community engagement with social impact. As we celebrate El Gouna’s 35th anniversary, Cycling for Humanity channels our town’s spirit toward advancing food security and sustainable development.”

Jean-Pierre de Margerie, WFP Egypt Country Director, added:“Ensuring food and nutrition security requires innovative partnerships that unite purpose with action. Our collaboration with El Gouna shows how community and creativity can drive meaningful change.”

The initiative also complements El Gouna’s sustainability ethos, offering participants a glimpse of its eco-friendly design, renewable energy systems, and integrated urban model.

Beyond the cycling event, the partnership extends to the El Gouna Film Festival (GFF), which this year features the “Eish” short film competition in collaboration with WFP. The competition invites young filmmakers to tell stories of resilience and food security, echoing the festival’s theme, “Cinema for Humanity.”

Through initiatives like these, El Gouna continues to exemplify how compassion, creativity, and sustainability can work hand in hand to build stronger, more resilient communities—bringing to life its enduring promise of “Life as it should be.”
