Sherif El Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, has met with the heads of new city authorities and councils to enhance cooperation between these entities, Invest-Gate reports.
Waleed Abbas, Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) for the Planning and Projects Sector, and Amin Ghoneim, Deputy Chairman of NUCA for Real Estate and Commercial Affairs, attended the meeting.
El Sherbini emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to supporting city councils, recognizing them as key partners in developing new cities. He highlighted the role of these councils in representing residents’ needs and assisting city authorities in fulfilling their goals.
During the meeting, El Sherbini outlined the Ministry’s plans for new cities, focusing on increasing financial resources for city authorities and councils. He encouraged innovative and non-traditional approaches to overcome challenges and ensure sustainable development and service provision.
Moreover, the Minister stressed the importance of a fresh, dynamic approach within city councils, emphasizing continuous and effective communication with residents. He called for greater transparency in showcasing achievements and projects and involving residents in the development process, thereby fostering a stronger connection between citizens and their cities.
Furthermore, El Sherbini directed the formation of a committee led by the Vice President of NUCA for City Development, which includes city council heads, city authority officials, and relevant experts to address city-specific issues. This committee will regularly discuss and resolve issues, share experiences across cities, and provide monthly reports to the Minister.
City council heads expressed their gratitude to El Sherbini for this unprecedented meeting, appreciating the opportunity to enhance civil society’s role in achieving the development goals of Egypt’s new cities.
