Kamil El-Wazir, Minister of Transport, conducts the soft launch of the October Dry Port, the first of its kind port in Egypt, in the 6th of October City, Invest-Gate reports.
The port is built under a partnership between the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports (GALDP) and October Dry Port Company, which is a joint venture between Elsewedy Electric and Schenker, the logistics arm of Germany’s Deutsche Bahn.
The October Dry Port is located at the heart of the industrial and logistics zones in the New 6th of October City on 100 feddans.
The port is linked to the Egyptian National Railways network connecting Egyptian ports. It serves the Port of Alexandria to ease traffic congestion on desert roads.
The dry port spans over 420,000 sqm and a maximum handling capacity of 720,000 Twenty-foot equivalent unit containers annually.
The port includes storage areas for imports, exports, and customs examination, in addition to buildings for all entities operating in the port.
The port also features a reefer container area that can handle 132 containers of standard dimensions, along with five rail networks for loading and unloading.
Ahmed Elsewedy, President and CEO of Elsewedy Electric, says that the project aims to incentivize the investment environment and support economic movement mechanisms through the facilitation and acceleration of trade and business movements in the region.
For his part, Amr Mansour, Managing Director of October Dry Port Company, comments that the project is a breakthrough in the multimodal transport system, as it aims to achieve rapid flow among maritime and dry ports through the rail network and accelerate the working cycle of the supply chain of exports and imports.
