Elsewedy Electric Alliance Wins 1st Dry Port in Egypt

Elsewedy Electric has announced that its alliance with DB Schenker Egypt and 3A International was awarded the establishment of Egypt’s first dry port in the 6th of October city, Invest-Gate reports

A project company will be established to finance, design, construct, exploit, maintain, and operate the dry port under the Public-Private Participation (PPP) system for a concession period of 30 years, according to Elsewedy’s press release on January 30. 

The total estimated cost of construction and equipment used for the port is USD 176 mn (EGP 2.78 bn), the Egyptian manufacturing company added.

The 100-acre project aims to serve Alexandria and Dekheila ports as a warehouse for customs clearance of containers, with a planned maximum capacity of 720,000 containers.

The project includes container yards, utilities, roads, communication and control systems, a solar energy system for electricity generation, lifting and transport equipment, tractors, railways inside the port and UV inspection systems, in addition to a container loading and unloading station.

The port will also feature integrated customs department headquarters, as well as, administrative offices for the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports, the project company, shipping line agents, and shipping, clearing, and transportation companies.

Earlier, Egypt’s transport ministry, along with the public-private partnership (PPP) central unit affiliated to the finance ministry, will start accepting technical and financial tenders for building the first dry port in the 6th of October Industrial Zone, west Cairo, as of July 11.
