Minister of Environment, Schneider Electric Hold Talks to Explore Enhancing Sustainability in Egypt at COP28

During her participation in COP28 being held in Dubai, Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad engaged in discussions with senior officials from Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, Invest-Gate reports.

This collaborative effort aligns with Egypt’s National Climate Change Strategy 2050, Egypt’s Vision 2030, and the nation’s ambitious goal to increase the electricity generated from renewable sources to 42% by 2035.

Among those present at the meeting were Jean-Pascal Tricoire, Chairman of Schneider Electric; Walid Sheta, President of Middle East and Africa at Schneider Electric; Sebastien Riez, Cluster President of Schneider Electric Northeast Africa and Levant; and Mona Samir, Head of Customer Relations and Government Relations at Schneider Electric Northeast Africa and Levant.

Moreover, Schneider Electric’s representatives acknowledged and commended the Ministry of Environment’s significant efforts under Yasmine Fouad’s leadership in tackling climate change and promoting sustainability in Egypt.

Also, this recognition encompassed the hosting of last year’s United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, during which Schneider Electric inaugurated its Sustainability Hub, demonstrating its commitment to fostering sustainable and environmentally conscious smart cities.

These efforts by Schneider Electric aim to align with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing resilience and low-emission strategies laid out in Egypt’s National Climate Change Strategy 2050 introduced during COP26.

Furthermore, this collaboration seeks to capitalize on Schneider Electric’s extensive experience in energy management and automation, spotlighting various projects across sectors. Notable among these are initiatives such as the digitalization of distribution and control centers (DCCs) in partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity, geared toward reducing carbon emissions, enhancing energy surplus, improving electricity services, and fortifying the national electricity grid.

Notably, the Schneider Electric team showcased several key projects leveraging their cutting-edge technology, including the Benban solar energy park in Aswan, Gabal El-Zeit wind farms, the New Delta Project, a water desalination plant in Galala City, a solar power plant in Sharm El Sheikh, and various transportation infrastructure projects equipped with Schneider Electric’s smart solutions.
