The Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Assem El Gazzar, reveals that the total investment of drinking water and sanitation projects in Assiut and the New Valley recorded EGP 4.6 bn in 2021, Invest- Gate reports.
For his part, Hesham Dorra, head of The Drinking Water and Sanitation Company in Assiut and The New Valley, states that the replacement and renovation plan for 2021 included the completion of replacement and renovation work on three water plants at a cost of EGP 40 mn, the replacement and renovation of six sewage plants and two parcel lines at a total cost of EGP 112 mn in Assiut governorate, in addition to improving water and sanitation services in The New Valley governorate at a total cost of EGP 80 mn.
He confirms that a number of projects have been implemented with external investments, including the replacement and renovation of two water plants at a cost of EGP 246.5 mn, the construction and strengthening of 155,000 km of sewage systems, and the implementation of 21,000 home connections in seven rural villages as part of the” ISSIP 2″ sewage collection and transportation project at a total cost of EGP 1 bn.
He further points out that the “Hayah Karima” initiative has completed the replacement and renovation of 59 wells, the rehabilitation of 6 water plants, the construction of 33 km of networks and the supply of 23 generators, valued at EGP196 mn.
Moreover, he notes that EGP 2.7 bn has been allocated for the expansion, construction and rehabilitation of seven water plants, the extension and strengthening of 444 km of water systems, 28 km of drainage, and the replacement and renovation of another 264 km. While the extension of water and sanitation services in the New Valley costed EGP 120 mn.
