Business tycoon and Head of Orascom Development Holding Samoh Sawiris urged the government to provide private companies with lands to help with the affordable housing project for low-income citizens, during a televised interview with Ala Hawa Masr aired on Al Nahar TV channel.

In his interview, Sawiris discussed Egypt’s recent economic decisions and investment challenges. “We should acquire lands from government at a reasonable prices and build units that are no bigger than 63 square meters,” he said, doubting the government’s ability to build one million residential units per year on its own, as it claims, without the involvement of the private sector.

Sawiris suggested that working cooperatively is a better solution rather than competing with the private sector through social housing projects.
