Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar has indicated that 489 water and wastewater projects have been implemented across the country, with costs totaled at EGP 58.5 bn, in the last six years, Invest-Gate reports.
Merely 295 potable water projects have been carried out countrywide, with investments worth EGP 38.5 bn, while 62 others are underway at a total cost of EGP 8.3 bn, El Gazzar confirmed during a meeting with various industry-related officials on July 7.
Besides, 194 wastewater developments have been executed nationwide, with costs amounted at EGP 20 bn, whereas 35 others are under construction at EGP 6.2 bn, the minister continued, noting that works at Upper Egypt’s secondary and tertiary sewerage treatment plants are done.
These stations come with a capacity of 1.2 mn cubic meters per day, with spending valued at EGP 8.9 bn, El Gazzar further highlighted in the recent ministerial statement.
Speaking of rural areas, after six years, sanitation services are now accessible at 703 villages, which cost EGP 5.6 bn. Meanwhile, 169 other spots will be served by drainage utilities soon, with investments of EGP 7.5 bn, according to the statement.
