Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar said approximately 166,000 residential units have been completed in 298 unsecured squatter areas, the Minister of Housing Assem el Gazzar stated.

The ministry is currently developing additional 75,000 units across 59 new slum areas, as part of the country’s plan to provide a decent life to all residents, according to a recent statement.

El Gazzar said the projects underway include Ma’an project in El Salam Awal in Cairo, northern and southern areas of El Sayadeen in Ras El Bar in Damietta Governorate; Halayeb and Shalateen areas in Red Sea Governorate.

In January, CEO of Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Fund (SHMFF) Mai Abdel Hamid said that a total of 360 units have been finalized, while work is still in progress on 32,863 units in seven governorates cross country.
