Egypt’s Planning and Economic Development Minister Hala El-Saeed said that the government directed investments amounting to EGP 944 mn to implement 202 projects in FY 2019/20, Invest-Gate reports.
The projects aim to develop villages in the governorates of Sohag, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, and Aswan, El-Saeed added in a statement published on March 1.
This came during the inauguration of a workshop on Egypt’s updated 2030 vision by the minister in Fayoum, in the presence of the city’s governor Ahmed El-Ansari, UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt Richard Dictus, and Development Officer at United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs Sami Areikat, in addition to representatives of 14 governorates, who are involved in the planning, sustainable development, investments, projects, follow-up, and evaluation processes.
A total of 102 projects have been implemented in 68 villages, benefiting 1.3 mn citizens, she added. Besides, the ministry aims to develop another 143 villages in the current fiscal year, bringing the total under the initiative to about 270 villages by the end of FY 2020/21.
El-Saeed earlier noted that the government has allocated investments totaled at EGP 15.4 bn for the local development program in FY 2019/20, Invest-Gate reports.
