Gov’t to Finalize 648 Social Housing Units in New Assuit

Egypt’s housing ministry is nearing the completion of 648 social housing units, within 27 buildings, in New Assiut, as part of the state’s plan to provide affordable housing to low-income citizens, Invest-Gate reports.

Deputy Director of Assiut Housing Authority Gehan Ammar said service projects are underway to accommodate the new residents, including two nurseries, two mini commercial markets, two soccer fields, along with a health unit, a public secondary school, a basic education school, an ambulance point, a police station, and the second phase of Nile International College, according to an official statement on August 30.

Besides, several utility projects are almost done such as the duplication of Upper Egypt-Red Sea Road, the second phase of road projects in Assiut’s distinguished housing area, as well as, raising the efficiency of surrounding roads and sidewalks, Ammar noted. The authority is also working on the completion of boosting the productivity of Assiut’s sewage plant, she highlighted.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly had announced back in September that New Assiut has witnessed investments worth EGP 4.1 bn so far, while a total of EGP 247 mn has been allocated for the new city in FY 2018/19 budget, according to a previous statement. He added about 11,280 social housing units have been implemented with investments of EGP 1.4 bn, while 648 properties are still under construction.
