Suez Governor Abdel Mageed Saqar and Executive Director of the Informal Settlements Development Fund (ISDF) Khaled Siddiq have inked cooperation agreement to revitalize 15 slums in Suez, Invest-Gate reports.
Under the deal, the rehabilitation of the existing road and sewage networks, in addition to the implementation of new electricity grids, will be undertaken at the informal settlements of Abu Ouf, Sadat, Kafr Fouad, Kafr Kamel, Kafr Al Arab, among others in the seaport city, with costs estimated at EGP 121 mn, Siddiq revealed in an official statement on January 6.
Improving the efficiency of city services and facilitating more sustainable development of urban infrastructure are the main drivers for boosting residential satisfaction, while also raising citizens’ quality of life, the official further stated.
It is worth noting that Suez marks the 15th governorate to sign a cooperation protocol with the ISDF to renovate Egypt’s informal areas, following Dakahlia, New Valley, Alexandria, and Giza provinces. This comes in line with the state’s endeavors toward a slum-free country, particularly for providing unprivileged households with decent livelihoods, according to a previous statement.
