The New Administrative Capital Company for Urban Development (ACUD) and American company Honeywell signed an agreement on February 21, under which the latter will develop security systems at the New Administrative Capital (NAC), Invest-Gate reports.
Honeywell, which won the project’s tender last December, will install public surveillance cameras, posts, control systems, and other devices, with expectations to be operational early 2020, according to a statement released.
Over 6,000 wireless cameras linked to a command center will “monitor crowds and traffic congestion, detect incidents of theft, observe suspicious people or objects, and trigger automated alarms in emergency situations,” ACUD Managing Director Mohamed Abdel Latif said during a press conference on the day of the agreement’s signing.
The cost of the project’s civil work is worth EGP 1.5 bn, he said, noting that the cost of the electro-mechanical works reached USD 37 mn.
Abdel Latif said emergency number 112 will be activated in NAC, which will transfer the complaint immediately to the control center, and in turn, will take the appropriate measures by linking technology to various security authorities in NAC.
On his part, President and CEO of Honeywell Vimal Kapur said NAC is a global model for urban expansion based on innovation and sustainability, expecting that Egypt will be an innovative country by 2030.
“We are proud to create a more sustainable society through providing security programs in large buildings, as well as, infrastructure security, and we are undertaking a considerable responsibility towards innovating products that make the region successful,” Kapur elaborated.
Khaled Hashem, president of Honeywell Egypt and Libya, noted that NAC is a new city characterized by top security and is supplied with integrated command control services. He added that the project is being implemented in collaboration with ACUD and other local partners.
Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy Thomas Goldberger said, “Egypt’s growth encourages companies to launch more businesses in the country. We are proud of this achievement and Honeywell is one of the best-known companies in providing such technology.”
“We are impressed with Egypt’s big success in mega projects, especially NAC,” Goldberger concluded.
