Eng. Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities & Urban Communities, meets Mr. Mark Davis, Regional Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), along with his accompanying delegation, to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation and support urban development and utilities projects. The meeting was attended by Dr. Walid Abbas, Deputy Minister for Urban Communities, and , Eng. Ahmed Omran, Deputy Minister for Utilities, as well as ministry officials, Invest-Gate reports.
Ongoing Partnership with EBRD
Eng. Randa El Menshawy opened the meeting by emphasizing the Ministry’s pride in its strong and ongoing partnership with the EBRD, which has played an important role in supporting the state’s efforts to achieve sustainable urban development. She highlighted the ongoing collaboration within the framework of the Green Cities program, in cooperation with the New Urban Communities Authority, which includes several projects such as developing the green strategy for 6th of October City, the asset management project in 10th of Ramadan City, and the environmental analysis project in New Alamein City.
Improving Water Supply and Sanitation Services
She also expressed appreciation for the joint cooperation with the Bank regarding water supply and sanitation projects, which contribute significantly to improving the quality of services provided to citizens.
Expanding Cooperation to Achieve Egypt Vision 2030
During the meeting, the Minister confirmed Egypt’s commitment to expanding cooperation with international development partners in implementing infrastructure and utilities projects, contributing to improving citizens’ quality of life, supporting sustainable development plans, and achieving Egypt Vision 2030. She expressed the Ministry’s aspiration to further expand cooperation in the coming period.
EBRD’s Commitment to Supporting Development and Infrastructure
Mr. Mark Davis, for his part, expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts in implementing comprehensive development programs, confirming the Bank’s commitment to continue supporting priority projects, especially in sustainable infrastructure, clean energy, enhancing private sector participation, and providing technical support for projects.
Enhancing Private Sector Participation and Transferring International Expertise
He also welcomed strengthening joint cooperation in the coming period, particularly in supporting private sector participation and providing innovative financing mechanisms that contribute to achieving comprehensive development. He noted that the EBRD places special attention on transferring technical expertise and best international practices to the Egyptian market, supporting efficient and sustainable project management.
Cooperation in PPP Projects and Strategic Alignment
The meeting addressed joint cooperation in public-private partnership (PPP) projects, collaboration with the New Urban Communities Authority regarding utilities projects, as well as Non-Revenue Water projects to reduce water network losses. The discussion also covered linking urban planning and sustainable green building strategies with the EBRD’s Green Cities program.
Continuing Coordination to Achieve Development Goals
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue joint coordination in the coming period to advance cooperation in several projects under study and explore new partnership opportunities to achieve shared development objectives.
