Assem El-Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, follows up on the procedures of developing and enhancing the Western Sewage Treatment Plant in Alexandria, Invest-Gate reports.
The meeting was attended by Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities for Infrastructure Affairs; Ahmed Abdel Qader, Head of the Executive Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater; Mahmoud Nafi, President of Alexandria Sanitation Company; Khaled Diaa, and Faraj Samhan from the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater and Consumer Protection.
During the meeting, El-Gazzar commended the efforts exerted in preparing the study by the participating entities and the fruitful cooperation among them. He emphasized adopting modern scientific methods in preparing the design standards for project implementation. Also, he directed that this study be considered a methodology to be followed when implementing major drinking water and sanitation projects.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized the goal is to achieve sewage treatment according to international specifications, allowing for their reuse for designated purposes, in line with the state’s direction to maximize the use of every drop of water.
Sayed Ismail explained that the project for developing and enhancing the Western Sewage Treatment Plant in Alexandria aims to increase the plant’s capacity from 462,000 m³/day to 630,000 m³/day.
During the meeting, the officials from the Drinking Water and Sanitation Organization and Consumer Protection provided a detailed explanation of the steps taken in preparing the study, the methodology employed, the research and scientific entities involved in cooperation with the joint working team from the Ministry of Housing’s utility sector, the statistical methods used to analyze the study’s results, and the final recommendations.
