Housing Minister Reviews East Cairo Wastewater Plans Through 2030

Eng. Sherif El Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting to review the wastewater infrastructure across East Cairo cities, Invest-Gate reports.

The session covered the current system and projects planned through 2030, including efforts to maximise the use of treated wastewater for irrigating green spaces, thereby reducing consumption of potable water.

The meeting included officials from the Ministry of Housing and the New Urban Communities Authority. Discussions focused on upgrading existing treatment plants to meet the needs of expected urban expansion in cities such as New Cairo, 10th of Ramadan, Badr, Hadayek Al Asimah, Obour, New Obour, Shorouk, and the New Capital.

In New Cairo, works are ongoing to enhance the efficiency of the current treatment plant, with further expansions planned through 2030. In 10th of Ramadan City, the ministry is boosting treatment capacities for both domestic and industrial wastewater, including upgrades to the 2,000-feddan plant receiving flows via Belbeis lines.

El Sherbini also reviewed the triple-treatment systems in New Cairo, 10th of Ramadan, and Shorouk, along with the new facility underway in the New Capital.

He directed officials to prioritise project timelines based on urban development plans and maintain coordination to ensure timely completion.
