Eng. Sherif El Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, reviewed the progress of road and utility projects underway in the southern expansions spanning 16,000 feddans in New Cairo City, Invest-Gate reports.
This initiative aims to provide numerous investment, residential, and service opportunities.
El Sherbini explained that the southern extension area of New Cairo is planned to include residential zones, service activities, and various investment opportunities.
He emphasized that the state’s urban plan is primarily an economic strategy, not just a construction plan, as the goal is to expand the built-up area to achieve economic development.
El Sherbini stressed the need to overcome any obstacles that may hinder implementation and to accelerate the pace of work to ensure projects are completed on time. This effort is part of the state’s plan to provide integrated and sustainable infrastructure and services to meet urban development requirements.
In this context, Eng. Abdel Raouf El-Ghaity, Head of the New Cairo City Development Authority, along with officials from the Authority, inspected the ongoing utility works in the southern extension.
He was briefed on the implementation status of the main lines (water and sewage) in the area, which connect the southern extension to the main city.
The implementation rates and actual completion progress were also reviewed, with an emphasis on adhering to the specified timetables and quality standards in accordance with the approved technical specifications.
El-Ghaity noted that the road networks have a total length of 85 km, while the utility networks include 110 km of water networks, 116 km of drainage networks, and 165 km of irrigation networks.
He concluded his tour by inspecting the progress of wastewater treatment plant No. 12 in Al Andalus area of the Third Settlement. He stressed the need for the companies implementing the plant to continue working around the clock to ensure its completion and timely operation.
