Housing Minister Sherif El Sherbini Sets Strategic Directives for Water and Sanitation Sector

Sherif El Sherbini, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, has held an extensive meeting with officials from the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater (HCWW) and the heads and deputies of its subsidiary companies nationwide, Invest-Gate reports.

The meeting focused on monitoring the progress within the water and sanitation sector.

During the session, El Sherbini issued a series of directives to the HCWW officials and subsidiary heads to implement the upcoming period’s work plan. These directives aim to enhance the strategic objectives and improve the services provided to citizens in this vital sector, directly impacting Egyptians’ daily lives.

Moreover, El Sherbini emphasized the importance of maximizing financial resources and revenues for the water and wastewater companies in the governorates. He urged preparing, implementing, and monitoring plans to increase revenue through various sources, including improving collection rates, especially for arrears, expanding the provision of smart and prepaid water meters to new customers, and replacing non-functional existing meters.

Furthermore, the minister highlighted the significance of human development, training, and education. He stressed building the capacities of employees across all sectors, creating and empowering young leadership cadres, and assigning them specific responsibilities.

Also, this approach is a crucial indicator of the success of company heads in performing their duties. Additionally, El Sherbini outlined the need to increase the number of graduates from technical schools to ensure a trained workforce that can work with private sector companies and other affiliated bodies.

El Sherbini mandated the preparation of quarterly reports on leadership development activities and the actions taken to empower young leaders. He also called for expanding the establishment of units to implement grant and loan projects, as well as strategic and national projects in each company, following the model of those participating in the Sustainable Rural Sanitation Services Program.

Notably, regular and precise follow-up on all human development directives was also instructed.
