Housing Minister Visits Dupont Research Hub in Barcelona to Explore Water Treatment Technologies

Eng. Sherif El Sherbini Minister of Housing Utilities and Urban Communties visited Barcelona, where he met with representatives from Dupont and IETOS to review the latest global technologies in water purification and wastewater treatment, Invest-Gate reports.

The visit included a tour of Dupont’s research center — the world’s largest facility for water desalination studies and equipment — which uses advanced membrane technologies including ultra-filtration (UF), nano-filtration (NF), and reverse osmosis (RO).

El Sherbini also confirmed that construction is underway for an IETOS factory in New Alamein dedicated to electromechanical equipment, and that the facility is expected to begin production later this year.

The minister reviewed the investment incentives Egypt offers for localizing the water treatment industry, particularly in membrane manufacturing and technologies supporting water reuse.

Company representatives showcased Dupont and IETOS’ expertise in membrane design, testing, and innovation, and discussed the main challenges in membrane operations and technical solutions to overcome them. The parties also addressed plans for future cooperation, including energy-efficient desalination and expanding private sector participation to support Egypt’s shift toward a green economy.
