Housing Ministry Officials, EBRD Join Forces to Implement Green City Action Plan for 6th of October City

Abdel Khaliq Ibrahim, Assistant Minister of Housing for Technical Affairs, along with officials from the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), has launched the Green City Action Plan (GCAP) for 6th of October City in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Invest-Gate reports.

The launch took place during a celebration at the city authority, attended by Mohamed Abdel Latif, Director General of Environmental Affairs at NUCA; Samar Khalil, Director General of Planning at NUCA; Adel El-Naggar, Head of the 6th of October City Development Authority; Heike Harmgart, Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region at the EBRD; Saber Sorour, Chairman of the city’s Board of Trustees; Mohamed Khamis, Chairman of the 6th of October City Investors Association; members of the city’s Board of Trustees, and representatives from the EBRD.

Ibrahim affirmed that Egypt has developed a Green Cities Action Plan as part of the implementation of the Sustainable Urban Resilience for the Next Generation (SURGe) Initiative, in which the Ministry of Housing participated and launched at the COP27 hosted by Egypt in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2022.

Ibrahim highlighted that the Green Cities Action Plan aims to position 6th of October City, known for its environmental industrial development and resource efficiency, as a hub for economic prosperity, comprehensive green growth, and sustainable development. The plan aims to create a livable city that attracts residents, students, and businessmen, establishing it as an educational and industrial center.
