Housing Units Under Construction for Residents of Unsafe Areas in South Sinai

The Slum Development Fund (SDF), affiliated with the ministry of housing, has nearly completed building 496 housing units in Sharm El Sheikh’s Ruwaisat area and has started to establish 624 others, as a second phase of the area’s development project, Invest-Gate reports.

Housing Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that the total cost of the two phases of the Ruwaisat development project is EGP 317 mn.

Khalid Siddiq, executive director of the SDF, said that the project involves the development of two areas in Ruwaisat: the area below the mountain and the area west to the mountain.

The first area is about 14.6 acres and has around 366 highly unsafe houses at constant threat of rock falls. Whereas the second area is about 27.8 acres and has around 556 inadequate single-floor houses with wooden roofs, built from the remnants of construction.

He elaborated that the new buildings consist of a ground floor and three upper floors, all including fully-furnished units. The governorate of South Sinai has listed the names of residents from the two areas, who will benefit from the units.
