Infinity Power, Hassan Allam Utilities, and Masdar Sign Land Access Agreement for 10GW Mega Wind Project with Egyptian Government

Infinity Power, the largest African renewable energy developer, in collaboration with Hassan Allam Utilities, a sustainable infrastructure-focused development and investment platform, and Masdar, the UAE’s flagship renewable energy company and a global leader in clean energy, has signed a Land Access Agreement with the Egyptian Government, Invest-Gate reports.

This agreement pertains to the consortium’s groundbreaking 10GW capacity onshore wind farm in Egypt, which is set to become one of the world’s largest wind farms with a project value exceeding $10 billion.

The Land Access Agreement grants the Consortium access to a 3025 km2 area of land located in West Sohag. This allows them to carry out the necessary development studies to advance the project, including resource measurement campaigns, geotechnical and topographic surveys, as well as environmental studies to ensure minimal environmental impact.

These studies represent a crucial step forward in project development, and the findings will play a vital role in progressing towards the construction phase.

Once construction begins, the wind farm will bring significant benefits to local communities, including job creation with a commitment to local hiring, community support initiatives, and the protection and preservation of the natural environment.

With an estimated annual production of 47,790 GWh of clean energy, the landmark wind project will reduce Egypt’s annual carbon emissions by approximately 9 percent, displacing 23.8 million tons of carbon dioxide annually.

Furthermore, it will contribute to Egypt’s strategic objective of sourcing 42 percent of its energy from renewables by 2030, saving the country an estimated $5 billion in natural gas costs per year.

The Land Access Agreement signing was witnessed by Egypt’s Prime Minister, Moustafa Madbouly, and Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy. The agreement was signed by Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power; Karim Hefzy, Chief Operating Officer at Hassan Allam Utilities; and Dr. Mohamed Asaad Taher, Senior Manager, Business Development and Investment at Masdar.

The initial project agreement to develop the 10 GW wind farm was signed between the Consortium and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, witnessed by the presidents of the UAE and Egypt on the sidelines of the UN climate change conference, COP27, in late 2022.
