June 30 Axis to Start Operating Next Month: Minister

Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar announced on June 26 that the parallel route to the Suez Canal – or June 30 Axis – will be inaugurated next month, slated to link Port Said, Ismailia, and Suez provinces, Invest-Gate reports.

Developed with investments worth EGP 5.2 bn, June 30 Axis is a two-way road divided into five lanes, of 95 kilometers long and 80 meters wide, El Gazzar said in an official statement. The southern sector runs for 48 kilometers, while the northern part is 47.2 kilometers in length, he noted in an official statement during a site visit, adding that two service roads are being developed on both sides of the route.

With 21 contractors working on the project’s construction, 17 bridges are underway on-site (11 main bridges and six vertical subways), 16 horizontal tunnels for vehicles, two pedestrian tunnels, two toll stations, six service stations, in addition to 500 box culverts, crossings, and furrows.

Pilot operation of axis is currently undergoing, which is set to be one of the most vital national projects, aimed at creating new development axes, achieving a comprehensive development strategy, optimizing human, economic, and natural resources, attracting more investments into new promising development areas, as well as, the depletion of population density in condensed governorates, El Gazzar underlined.
