Multidisciplinary design consultancy Khatib & Alami (K&A) has been named the lead government transaction advisor on the construction, financing, and operations of the planned USD 4.5 bn monorail project, linking east and west Cairo, Invest-Gate reports.
The company, together with Getinsa, TEGC, and Sarie-Eldin & Partners, cooperated with the transport and housing ministries “to secure the best financing structure for the project,” according to a press release on September 4.
“This included the development of early feasibility studies across financial, technical, and legal disciplines, through to successfully supporting the Ministries to run a complex end-to-end tender process involving world-class international and regional bidders,” read the statement.
Commenting on the move, Chairman and CEO of K&A Najib Khatib stated, “We are proud to have worked closely with our clients for over a year on this important project that will be a game-changer for public transport in Cairo.”
Canadian manufacturing group Bombardier’s mobility solution providing arm, Bombardier Transportation, alongside Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors, was chosen to deliver the mega project, which consists of two lines – one running from east Cairo to the New Administrative Capital (NAC) and another connecting 6th October City to Giza.
“Upon completion of construction, the consortium will operate and maintain (O&M) both the lines for 30 years. The agreement is subject to final signatures of supplementary documents,” the statement noted.
K&A is currently advising an array of public and private clients across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region on the finest technical and financial solutions for their infrastructure needs across the transportation, utilities, and social infrastructure sectors.
