KAFD Partners with CRRC & Hassan Allam for Riyadh’s Futuristic Monorail Project

On the sidelines of the eighth Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh, the King Abdullah Financial District Development and Management Company (KAFD DMC) signed an agreement with CRRC (Hong Kong) Co. Limited, CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co. Ltd, and Hassan Allam Construction Saudi to launch an innovative monorail project designed to enhance urban mobility within the district, Invest-Gate reports.

The monorail, spanning 3.6 kilometers, will operate on a driverless autopilot system, incorporating six trains on a circular track with six strategically placed stations. This elevated system connects office, retail, and leisure spaces within KAFD and integrates seamlessly with the Riyadh Metro, promoting smooth transitions and supporting KAFD’s vision of a “10-Minute City.”

For his part, Stephen Thomas, COO of KAFD DMC, highlighted the global shift in urban mobility, with the public transportation market expected to grow from $6.11 bn in 2024 to $28.89 bn by 2034. CRRC leaders Li Dingnan and Wu Yuqing expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing its potential to enhance Riyadh’s infrastructure.

Furthermore, Amr Allam, Co-CEO of Hassan Allam Holding, stated, “We are proud to contribute to this landmark development, supporting sustainable growth in Saudi Arabia. This project aligns with our commitment to pioneering solutions for the Kingdom’s advancement.”

Designed to carry up to 3,500 passengers per hour, the KAFD monorail will serve as a model for future urban mobility and demonstrate Riyadh’s commitment to improving quality of life and environmental stewardship.
