German government-owned development bank KfW has provided financing valued at EUR 1.8 bn for projects currently being implement in Egypt, state news agency MENA quotes Burkhard Hinz, head of the bank’s Egyptian office, as saying.

The bank has financed projects worth EUR 5.5 bn since its operation in Egypt in the 1960s.

KfW is focusing on key fields in Egypt, including water, solid garbage, new and renewable energy, as well as creating job opportunities through providing technical education and supporting primary education, Hinz told journalists during the festival “Germany in the Nile Delta.”

The bank has financed the construction of 900 primary education schools across Egypt, in addition to water and irrigation projects, with plans to finance new projects in the Upper Egyptian governorates of Qena, Sohag, Assiut and Minya in the future.

Egypt will hold a meeting with the bank next year in Berlin to set a priorities agenda.
