Lafarge Egypt Targets 6 mn Tons of Cement Sales in 2019

Lafarge Egypt, a member of LafargeHolcim Group, said it targets sales of 6 mn tons of cement in Egypt this year, Invest-Gate reports.

Hussein Mansi, CEO of Lafarge Egypt, said during a media event on February 18 that 27% of the company's cement production last year was for national projects, while exports to Libya, Kenya and East Africa accounted for about 10% of its production.

Mansi added the company has invested about EGP 200 mn in a number of projects for transforming the household wastes to an alternative source of energy.

He stated that the capacity of alternative energies provided through the household wastes reaches about 1,000 tons per day, with a capacity of 300,000 tons annually, saving the company about 200,000 tons of coal annually.

Mansi noted that the company will negotiate with a number of investors to implement some projects to generate solar energy at its factory in Ain Sokhna, in line with the state’s inclination towards freeing up gas pricing by the end of the current fiscal year.

Moreover, he pointed out that there is a necessity for the government to issue the necessary legislation to stimulate the use of solar energy as an alternative source of energy during the coming period.
