Lessors Can Now Register Leased Properties: Interior Ministry

Egypt’s interior ministry now offers an online service that allows lessors to register properties they rent out across all governorates, in an aim to lead the country toward a digital transformation and a cashless economy, Invest-Gate reports.

Endeavoring to grant a seamless process, the new feature enables citizens to log data of apartments, shops, and agricultural lands leased in Egypt, at https://www.moi.gov.eg, according to an official statement on June 17.

The website operates using an electronic payment and collection mechanisms via credit cards or non-cash transactions, bearing in mind that all standards for insurance and data protection systems for this service have been considered.

Those who need further assistance have to follow the steps detailed on the interior ministry’s website, noting that, in some cases, there is a possibility of registering the leased property at the nearest police department.

On February 27, the cabinet approved amendments to the Anti-Terrorism Act, mandating that landlords can face up to a year in prison and fines of nearly EGP 10,000 for not registering rented properties and providing authorities with copies of their leases with any tenant.
