LMD has announced the launch of a District Cooling Plant (DCP) at its flagship project One Ninety in New Cairo. The facility, developed in collaboration with contractor Medcom-MLE and consultant Allied, is the first of its kind in New Cairo and one of the most advanced cooling systems in Egypt, Invest-Gate reports.
Located at the intersection of South 90 Street and the Ring Road, One Ninety is a fully integrated mixed-use destination featuring residential, commercial, administrative, and hospitality spaces, including Cairo Design District, the Business Quarter, Urban Park, W Cairo, and W Residences.
The new cooling system replaces traditional standalone units with a centralized high-performance network that produces and distributes chilled water across all buildings. This technology reduces electricity consumption, lowers carbon emissions, and supports Egypt’s sustainable development goals. The plant integrates leading global technologies, including TRANE chillers, Grundfos pumps, EVAPCO cooling towers, Schneider electric panels, and Elsewedy transformers. It offers a total cooling capacity of 9,350 refrigeration tons and is designed with built-in redundancy to ensure uninterrupted operation.
The system is managed through an advanced SCADA platform, enabling real-time monitoring and automated operations. Future upgrades will incorporate artificial intelligence to optimize performance, enhance energy efficiency, and reduce operating costs for residents and businesses.
Amr Sultan, CEO of LMD, said: “We are proud to inaugurate the District Cooling Plant at One Ninety, a milestone that reflects our commitment to delivering projects combining comfort, efficiency, and sustainability. This investment strengthens the project’s ability to offer an ideal environment for residents, visitors, and companies alike.”
The hybrid design combines electric and gas-powered chillers with smart water management systems to further minimize energy use and environmental impact. LMD says the initiative aligns with its broader vision of creating modern, sustainable urban destinations that balance lifestyle with environmental responsibility.
