Lusail Stadium to be Constructed By Qatari, Chinese Joint Venture

Qatar’s Supreme Council for Delivery & Legacy (SC) announced that the main contractor for the Lusail Stadium will be a Chinese and Qatari joint venture, according to a press release.

The joint venture will be set up between Qatari company HBK Contracting and China Railway Construction Corporation. The stadium is set to accommodate 80,000 people and is located 20 km north of Doha. It will host both the opening and final matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The schematic design for the stadium was completed earlier this year by British architecture firm Foster + Partners, and the final stadium design will be revealed in early 2017. The legacy concept for the stadium – meaning its usage after the World Cup – will also be presented then.

Meanwhile, the contract for the cooling of the stadium was awarded to Marafeq, which will provide up to 30,000 tons of refrigeration to the stadium before and during the tournament. Early works contracts had already been awarded to Galfar Al Misnad and Marbu Contracting
