Egypt’s Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouly has checked up on the water drainage efforts currently taking place in New Cairo following heavy rainfall that caused power outage in some districts, Invest-Gate reports.
The power outage, in turn, caused a breakdown in some sewage lift stations that serve the city, leading to accumulation of rainwater, a Housing Ministry statement read.
Head of the New Cairo City Authority, according to the statement, was present at the scene from the first moments of the heavy downpours to follow up on draining rainwater from the streets.
Extra vacuum trucks were brought in from nearby governorates that were not hit by the heavy rain.
There are currently 10 vacuum trucks working on draining the streets, in addition to another 10 on their way, the statement added.
