Prime Minister and Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Development Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting on January 1 to follow up on the latest developments in Cairo’s informal settlements, while reviewing the ministry’s plans to house the completed areas, Invest-Gate reports.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawi, Cairo Governor Atef Abdel Hamid, among a number of other officials, according to a ministerial statement.
During the meeting, the officials showcased the development projects being completed and ready for inauguration in the coming period, including Al-Asmarat 3 residential project, which spans an area of 65 acres and comprises 7,298 housing units as well as some service, commercial, sports, and entertainment buildings, at an estimated cost of EGP 1.9 mn.
Among other residential projects scheduled to launch soon is Al Mahrousa 2, which covers an area of about 16 acres and consists of 1,666 housing units, at a total cost of nearly EGP 350 mn, Madbouly affirmed, laying emphasis on giving prominence to developing Cairo’s Maspero Triangle.
In addition, the prime minister called for the completion of plans to move residents of unsafe areas to the newly developed ones, stressing on the need to optimize investment for all areas that will soon be vacated and to avoid the creation of such informal settlements again.
