Majid Al Futtaim has postponed the launching of City Centre Al Zahia, located in UAE’s Sharjah, to March 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Trade Arabia reports.
The additional period will give all of City Centre Al Zahia’s tenants extra time to stabilize and prepare their new stores, while also providing the liberty to kick off when the market is more conducive for trading.
Stretching across 136,200 square meters of gross leasable area, City Centre Al Zahia will become the largest mall in the Northern Emirates and the centerpiece of Majid Al Futtaim’s developments in Sharjah.
In addition to an array of relaxing public spaces, the new establishment will comprise more than 360 new and prominent brands, all housed within a contemporary retail environment that reflects the stunning architecture.
The mall will connect seamlessly to Majid Al Futtaim’s 1 mn-square-meter residential community, Al Zahia, in a bid to place a premium shopping, dining, and entertainment hub on the doorstep of many residents in Sharjah’s emerging urban center.
Shireen El Khatib, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim’s shopping malls business unit, stressed that in line with its delivery commitments, the mall’s construction has run to schedule since the groundbreaking ceremony. “However, in light of the global changes that have impacted the retail industry, we have taken the prudent decision to revise the opening date of City Centre Al Zahia, in the best interest of our customers and tenants,” she asserted.
