Mall of Egypt, City Centre Maadi and City Centre Alexandria, owned by Majid Al Futtaim, are saving approximately 2000 kWh as part of the global Earth Hour movement, Invest-Gate reports.
The malls participated in Earth Hour last month by simply dimming and switching off lights for one hour. Majid Al Futtaim websites were also switched to a ‘power-saving mode’ during the hour to pay tribute to the movement, according to a press release.
In the week leading up to the Earth Hour, the malls launched a social media campaign dubbed “Pledge for the Cause” to help raise awareness of the ways that individuals, communities, households, and businesses can conserve electricity.
The campaign included a series of daily tips and a link to each mall’s website, encouraging consumers to conserve water, use less energy, plant a tree, reuse and recycle, and/or reduce their carbon footprint.
Earth Hour is a worldwide program dedicated to creating a greener world and energy-saving processes.
