Dubai-based retail and leisure developer Majid Al Futtaim has announced that construction work of Mall of Oman, the group’s fifth and biggest lifestyle destination, is in full swing for March 2021 opening, having hit two major infrastructure milestones en route, Invest-Gate reports.
New roads and flyovers, connecting the mall to interchange no. 6 on the Muscat Expressway, have been delivered, while the Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC) primary substation, which will facilitate the completion of the central cooling plant, is also completed, the developer said in a press release on August 7.
Comprising 145,000 square meters of retail space, including 350 outlets, Mall of Oman is set to feature a number of dining outlets, along with the sultanate’s largest Vox Cinemas, Magic Planet family entertainment center, a 12,200-square-meter Carrefour hypermarket, and the largest indoor snow park nationwide.
Unveiled in 2013 as an OMR 180 mn project, Mall of Oman, which previously had a projected opening in 2020, is set to be one of the biggest retail projects in the sultanate. It is also expected to contribute to Oman 2040 Vision on economic diversification by creating meaningful job opportunities and raising the living standard of its citizens and residents.
“By developing Mall of Oman, we continue to contribute to the growth of the local tourism industry and enable job creation for residents both during and post-construction,” said CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Shopping Malls Ghaith Shocair.
