STR analysts released their July 2016 Pipeline Report, revealing that Mecca in Saudi Arabia and the emirate of Dubai both have more than 20,000 hotel rooms each under construction, Arabian Business reported.
Mecca currently has 21,835 rooms in total of 13 hotels under construction, while Dubai has 20,882 rooms in the pipeline in 67 hotels.
As for Middle Eastern with over 5,000 rooms under construction, Doha records 6,830 rooms under construction in 30 hotels, while Riyadh has 6,657 upcoming rooms in 30 hotels, according to the Khaleej Times.
The STR report indicated that the Middle East has a total of 155,899 rooms in 552 projects, whether under construction, in the planning stages, or the final plan phase.
The report also added that the total number of contracted projects in the Middle East recorded an 18.8 % increase in rooms compared to July last year. The construction phase alone in the Middle East reported 83,194 rooms in 259 hotels, marking a 12.2% increase.
