Minister of Housing Meets the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt to Discuss a Number of Joint Cooperation Files

The meeting discusses preparations for participation in the World Urban Forum “WUF13”.

Eng. Randa El-Menshawy confirms Egypt’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations in sustainable urban development files.

Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, met with Ms. Elena Panova, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, to discuss aspects of joint cooperation between the Ministry of Housing and United Nations organizations, and to discuss preparations for participation in the World Urban Forum “WUF13,” scheduled to be held in Baku during the current month of May, as one of the most important international events concerned with issues of sustainable urban development, Invest-Gate reports.

Egypt Confirms Strengthening Cooperation with the United Nations in Sustainable Urban Development

During the meeting, the Minister of Housing confirmed Egypt’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations in sustainable urban development files and benefit from international experiences and expertise in the fields of urban planning, sustainable housing, new city development, and addressing climate change, in line with Egypt Vision 2030.

Eng. Randa El-Menshawy pointed out that Egypt’s participation in the 13th World Urban Forum represents an important opportunity to showcase Egypt’s pioneering experience in urban development and the achievements made in new cities, housing projects, and the development of unsafe areas, in addition to efforts toward transitioning to smart and sustainable cities.

WUF13 Enhances Exchange of Expertise and Support for Green Urbanism

For her part, Ms. Elena Panova expressed her appreciation for the existing cooperation with the Ministry of Housing, praising the major urban boom Egypt has witnessed during recent years, and affirming the United Nations’ interest in supporting sustainable urban development efforts and enhancing the exchange of expertise in this field.

The meeting also witnessed discussions on a number of areas of joint cooperation, including supporting green urbanism policies, enhancing resource efficiency, expanding sustainable projects, capacity building, supporting innovation in urban planning, in addition to joint coordination regarding events and activities related to the World Urban Forum “WUF13.”
