Ministry of Housing Officials Join Green Building Initiative Launch at COP28

A delegation from the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities has participated in the launch of the Green Building Initiative at the invitation of the French government, Invest-Gate reports.

The initiative took place during COP28 held in Dubai, and involved the participation of several countries, including Morocco.

The delegation consisted of Abdel Khaleq Ibrahim, Assistant Minister of Housing for Technical Affairs; Mai Abdel Hamid, CEO of the Social Housing and Real Estate Finance Support Fund; Hassan Al-Laithi, Advisor to the Ministry of Housing for International Cooperation and International Conference Affairs; and Islam Hassan, Assistant Supervisor of the Office of the Minister of Housing.

Ibrahim emphasized the significance of the green building and construction initiative launched during COP28. He highlighted that the Ministry of Housing has developed a roadmap for a gradual transition towards sustainable urbanism and green buildings. This transition aims to enhance the quality of life for citizens, reduce resource consumption, and promote energy efficiency. This effort follows the launch of the Sustainable Urban Resilience for the Next Generation (SURGe) initiative during COP27 held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

Ibrahim stated that the Egyptian government is committed to supporting the shift towards sustainable urbanism and green buildings. From an institutional perspective, a National Council for Green Urbanization and Architecture is being formed. This council will be responsible for preparing an action plan to facilitate the gradual transition to sustainable green urbanism. Moreover, it will support the private sector and investments in the field of architecture and green urbanization.
