Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities for National Projects Khaled Abbas has announced that the New Administrative Capital’s (NAC) Iconic Tower – set to be the tallest in Africa – stands at 188 meters long now, out of the planned 400 meters, Invest-Gate reports.
Work is still underway as the tower, situated in NAC’s Central Business District (CBD), sees the installation of the 18th floor’s metal structure, out of 80 stories, Abbas underlined in a ministerial statement on June 23, stressing that the megaproject is being executed with investments worth USD 3 bn (EGP 48.54 bn).
The China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) is implementing 20 mixed-use skyscrapers in the CBD, including the Iconic Tower, in cooperation with the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), the official further highlighted.
Since 1973, the tallest building in Africa was Johannesburg’s Carlton Center, at 223 meters in height. But it will be replaced as soon as the Iconic Tower is finalized after at least two years of construction.
